Pearls for the Funky - Wearing Pearls with Style, Grace, and Blue Jeans.

Pearls: the oldest and most precious gem on earth, the only jewel naturally made by a living creature. Historically, they represent social standing, wealth and power. Worn by royalty for over 2,000 years, worn by debutantes, an amulet believed to ward off evil spirits and illnesses. Prized by the Aztecs, Hindus, Native American’s, Europeans and every socialite (“social”) in New York City… pearls are as rich with history and meaning as anything you could legally drape around you.

It has been said that women shouldn’t wear pearls unless they have earned them… either for their virtue or wealth. In 2009, if you can afford them, adorn them! If not, buy lookalikes.

Okay, let’s zip passed all of the “rules” of wearing pearls and imagine a woman in 2009 rockin’ a string of pearls with blue jeans. Let’s picture bold colors or modern materials bouncing off of the reflection of this gem. The paradox of a funky look with a classic and conservative accessory is an eye feast… an enticing, playful, and classy eye-fest if done right.
